Global Icon
Global Icon is live and online. It's a major new competition for unsigned bands and winners could become the hottest new breaking bands in the UK.
The first competition is underway and GYBO band THE MILE has got into the top four acts. Global icon is a state of the art competition running both on the Internet and on Sky TV.
The Global Icon web site acts like Myspace and Facebook combined but unlike both of these, offers live shows, via its competitions, which will be televised through a Sky TV channel.
Having won a place in the top four acts, THE MILE (managed by GYBO) are heading off to Manchester in June to take part in a three day Boot Camp. As part of this, the band will play a number of gigs in Manchester which will be filmed for Propeller TV.
Each finalist band has also been provided with a CamCorder, to use in making a video diary which will become part of the tv programme.
It all started when THE MILE registered on the Global Icon web site, and uploaded a few tracks. Fans then voted for a selection of bands on the web site and this got THE MILE into the top finalists on the competition.
Once the band had registered on the web site, it submitted Audition Tracks. Fans could then vote for their favourite tracks and those gaining the highest scores then got selected to take part in the three day boot camp in Manchester.
The top four acts will be heading up to a plush hotel in Manchester, to spend some time together, meet the Global team and take part in a series of live performances at the renown Blueprint Studios and gigs at The Roadhouse and the Ruby Lounge.
The resulting show will be broadcast on Propeller TV (Sky Channel 195). Naturally, the Mile's musicians are all very exciting about this. "Its a bit like getting into the finals of The X-factor", they said. "If we win this competition, this could well catapult us into the big-time", said lead vocalist Nick.
Give your band a chance to win: register on the Global Icon now.

The GYBO Index of UK Bands
Get Your Band On maintains an index of rock bands in the UK.
This index is not available over the Internet. It is a listing held in the GYBO office. It can be accessed only by GYBO staff. The list is confidential to GYBO and cannot be supplied to any third party. The index is used by GYBO staff to contact bands.
This web site used to include a list of bands that had registered with GYBO. The pages that held this information were composed manually. These pages have now become obsolete and have been removed.
The work involved in adding and updating them manually became too much for our staff to handle. A new system called Technical Profiles is now replacing the old textual listing of bands by genre.
GYBO's index of bands contains the details of over 1,300 currently active bands, all of which are based in the UK.
In addition to this list, we also have 3,000 UK bands on our MySpace friends list. Our International section has nearly 300 bands from around the world.
